Join our guest experts Shira Kammen and Robert Mealy in Royal Consorts, a workshop devoted to the delights of 16th and 17th century English consort music. Classes will feature the great consort and dance repertoire from early Elizabethan through Jacobean periods, including a special session, ÒThe MasquerÕs Delight,Ó an entry into the vivid world of royal theater music for viol band.

Robert Mealy is known to viol players as a teacher (VdGSA Conclave, SFEMS workshops, Amherst, the Madison Early Music Festival) as well as a performing member of the King's Noyse and Fortune's Wheel. He is concertmaster of the distinguished Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, and serves in this capacity frequently with orchestras in New York City. Robert recently was appointed director of the Yale Collegium, and teaches at Harvard College. Shira Kammen has spent well over half her life exploring the worlds of early and traditional music. A member of Ensemble Alcatraz, Project Ars Nova, and Medieval Strings, she has also performed with numerous other groups and taught at workshops including Amherst and SFEMS.  Lawrence Lipnik is well-known to VdGS/GNY as a performer and teacher and is a member of the New York Consort of Viols and Parthenia. Lisa Terry is a member of Parthenia and ARTEK, and teaches at the French-American School of Music in Manhattan as well as workshops around the U.S.
